A modular, PC/104 single board computer designed for general embedded applications requiring very low power consumption. The TS-8160-4200 requires less than 1 W to operate, yet packs in many industry standard connectors and interfaces including 10/100 Ethernet, USB ports, RS-232, RS-485, RS-422, CAN, SPI, DIO, additional TTL-level UARTs, and much more. This low power goal is achieved by using efficient switching regulators, disabling CPU peripheral clocks when not required, clocking the FPGA only when necessary, using mobile 1.8 V RAM, and the ability to disable the Ethernet and microSD card.
The TS-8160-4200 consists of the TS-8160 baseboard and TS-4200 System-on-Module (SoM) connected by two rugged, 100-pin TS-SOCKET connectors. This modular design ensures future-ready deployment, as the TS-4200 SoM can swapped out for another SoM with an upgraded CPU and components. The TS-4200 uses a 400 MHz Atmel Arm9™-based CPU and 3k LUT Actel FPGA, both designed for low power. It can be configured with 64 or 128 MB RAM and can boot from the 256 MB on-board flash drive or microSD card. The on-board flash drive features our raid-like XNAND technology for extremely reliable data storage. For customers of our TS-7200 and TS-7300 series of single board computers, this TS-8160-4200 provides and excellent upgrade path.
Software, including OS and utilities, comes preloaded and ready to run out of the box. Familiar GNU development tools, like gcc and gdb, are also installed, making on-board development easy. GNU cross compile toolchains for the C programming language are also made available so you can develop using your favorite desktop IDE. Finally, as with most Linux distributions, other services like Apache Web Server, CGI-BIN, FTP, SSH, Telnet, Samba network services, etc. are available. A Busybox, initial ramdisk environment is also included for very fast boot times in less than three seconds.
As with all of our products, the cross compile toolchains, source code, schematics, mechanical drawings, and manuals for the TS-8160-4200 are freely available for download in the resources tab.
